Computer Fraud
CLSID Scam !
I received a phone call this morning from a man with a very strong Indian accent saying they have received information concerning my computer problems. "We are a Microsoft Solutions Provider and wish to assist you in solving your recent computer problems."
The CLSID Scam is based on tactics of fear, where first they would lead you to a log that Windows keeps. Because some numbers in this log are NOT unique across computers, the scammers can call out this number to you and gain your trust. One the scammers have your trust, they can log onto your computer and then have their way.
Never give out:
Your name
Your address
Phone numbers
Other email addresses you may use or
Credit card numbers

Some helpful ideas:
- Do not allow them to access your computer
- Suggest that you may have software which is tracking their phone number and you will report them if they call back
- Act as if you are using an Apple or Mac like the video above
